“OM” Divine Inspiration for 2012

This year starts off with the introduction of three new items using the “Om” or “Aum” symbols to represent Cultural/Religious Indian influence on design.

The “OM” know as “Pranava”-to sound loudly” is a sacred and mystical syllable in the Dharma (prayers) of Indian religions such as Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism. This symbol is placed before most Hindu texts and at the end of a readings of Vedas (prayers) or mantras to symbolize the Beginning , Duration and Dissolution of the Universe and the associated deities (gods) Brahma, Ushnu and Shiva. The name “Omkara” is taken as the name of G-d. The “OM” is the reflection of the absolute reality without beginning or end embracing all that exists. It is not just a sound, vibration or symbol t is the entire Cosmos, whatever we can see, touch and feel. Moreover it is all that is within our perception.

With this in mind and the fact that it is revered by humans in the billions I have created these pieces that are sure to bring both ascetic and spiritual inspiration to the wearer.

At the Doorway

Standing at the doorway of a new year I find myself with little time to look back at what's left behind. I think of those that passed on during the year. A few prematurely and by their own choice leaving so many unfulfilled dreams. A few fading away perhaps not even realizing that time had taken their minds and health….There is so much to think of but for some reason, at the moment they come to mind……And my thoughts carry me to my friends and family…..So little time spent with them even on this Facebook.

And there’s so little time to think of all this because my obligations push and my dreams beckon me forward through the doorway of the uncertainty of a New Year. No regrets,  I prepare to rush out and devour my time. There is so much that has been left undone……

2011 Holiday Season The Sum Of It All

 

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

It’s hard to believe that the Holiday Season is once again upon us. This year has blown by fast. It has also been a very challenging year for many of us and I can tell you firsthand it is not easy to be in the jewelry business where our raw material, Gold, has increased in price from 300-400 dollars an ounce to a whopping 1600+.  That’s a 4 to 5-time increase.

In the face of all this adversity, I have tried new technologies in design and production and have come up with new cutting edge styles such as my Duo Thespian Mask Rings….

Updated Vintage Green Quartz

The diversity of my Celtic Pattern Design is exhibited  once again when another customer requested I “do something” with a green quartz stone that has been in her family for a number of generations. At first she believed it was an Aquamarine but I pointed out the color difference between the Beryl Aquamarine and Green Quartz. As a footnote, an Aquamarine of this size would be worth a considerable amount of money today.


Once again you may see the effect this design has on the stone turning it from an almost transparent amorphous crystal into a beautiful piece of jewelry accentuating the stone’s pale color and facets in a intricately detailed frame.  The pendant is once again beautifully finished with a grilled back that protects, allows light into the stone as well as giving the entire piece and overall “luxury” finish. And of course I have used a “Round Box” .925 Chain to hang the piece from. Notice the extra large chain bale I used. This will fit an extra thick chain or silk cord and should be at least 27” or more in length.

Fusing New Technology with Old World Designs

 

Businesses are somewhat like Dinosaurs…..if they don’t adapt they become extinct and along with hours of hard work one must put in a few minutes of smart thinking……

A client of mine recently requested I “do something” with a rather large custom cut Brazilian Citrine she had purchased.

Executing the design in .925 silver I used a Celtic Knot Pattern which has become one of my preferred signature design elements and made a sort of “picture frame” around this beautiful Citrine. Esoterically this Celtic Pattern invokes a symbiosis of the stones natural beauty and powers with the needs of the material existence. Oxidation of the pattern not only highlights the intricacy of the design but emphasizes the Madiera Citrine’s natural color. This is the result…..

But making a “frame” was not enough for me. I wanted to demonstrate both my ability as a jeweler and establish the uniqueness of the piece. Once again I looked into the craftsmanship of the past and designed a “Grill” design that would not only protect the stone but add to the finish and still allow enough light to enter the stone….all this within a budget of 500.00 USD

When my customer arrived to pick up her piece I presented the piece on a “Round Box Link” chain design often used by renowned jewelry design company David Yurman in many of their pieces. The subdued “add on” made a nice enhancement to the piece and my customer was encouraged to purchase the chain as well (139.00 USD).

Almeria Retro Calendar

In the watch business success is attained by introducing models with a combination of styling, functionality and technical advancements all these elements have been personified in the Almeria Retrograde. This is the most complex watch we have produced so far by using the Swiss Ronda Cal 7004.N Quartz Movement with Big Date.
